(8) Chapter: Chosing the to give a gift

باب مَنْ أَهْدَى إِلَى صَاحِبِهِ وَتَحَرَّى بَعْضَ نِسَائِهِ دُونَ بَعْضٍ

Narrated `Aisha:

The people used to send gifts to the Prophet (ﷺ) on the day of my turn. Um Salama said: “My companions (the wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) Other than Aisha) gathered and they complained about it. So I informed the Prophet about it on their behalf, but he remained silent.

حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ كَانَ النَّاسُ يَتَحَرَّوْنَ بِهَدَايَاهُمُ يَوْمِي‏.‏ وَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ إِنَّ صَوَاحِبِي اجْتَمَعْنَ‏.‏ فَذَكَرَتْ لَهُ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا‏.‏
